ometimes called porcelain laminates
or porcelain laminate veneers, these formed porcelain shells are used to create a new
front surface to a tooth. The purpose may be to create a desired tooth shape, form a
whiter tooth, or even to close a space. This is, without a doubt, the
"Cadillac" of cosmetic smile enhancement. The procedure is irreversible, meaning
that you will be wearing veneers for the rest of your life, but no one wants to go back to
their old smile after having veneers placed. Many of your top Hollywood stars and models
have chosen this route to the smile of their dreams.
Getting veneers
on your teeth is usually a two-visit procedure, although in some cases it can take up to
four or five visits. The first visit requires some local anesthetic for most patients. Two
weeks later, the veneers are tried in place and, if satisfactory, are bonded to your
teeth. Veneers are best used when tooth bleaching has not been effective. Veneers are also
used to alter tooth shape and to close spaces. It is healthier for a tooth to have a
veneer than a full crown and yet they give the same, beautiful results as a crown when you
smile. In most cases, veneers will give you your dream smile without the need of any other
treatment.
