his
procedure, which is commonly called tooth bleaching, was first used on healthy, live teeth
in the mid-1970's. It is probably the procedure most often requested today. It is simple,
effective, and has few side effects. Most recently, 5, 8 and 10-year studies have
shown bleaching to be a safe and amazing way to get whiter teeth.
There are many
techniques and procedures available to you today. The most common technique, and the least
expensive, is the "at-home" tooth whitening. Basically, you do it yourself with
the help of our guidance. At the first visit to the office, molds of your teeth are made.
A thin plastic mouth guard or tray is custom-made to fit over your teeth. On the second
appointment, we teach you how to use the trays (one for the upper teeth, the other for the
lower teeth) and the whitening solution. After two to three weeks a check up is needed to
verify that the technique is working as expected. In no more than 30 days, for one hour a
day, you can have the white teeth you always wanted.
Other techniques require office visits. Whitening
procedures such as whitening with lasers and mild heat may be suggested. These procedures
are safe but are a little more expensive.
